The Children and Youth Librarian develops innovative programs to engage children aged from birth to 18 years of age, (and their carers) in the library environment, maintaining a strong connection to the libraries over time through leading edge events, activities and school holiday programs which keep the child and youth audience intrigued.   

Our ideal candidate will be Degree qualified in Library Science or a related field and bring a strong understanding of contemporary library program options for this broad age group. The incumbent will need to balance business outcomes with enthusiasm for program innovation ensuring both financial and community outcomes are being realised. A positive and team oriented approach is essential for success, along with the ability to forge strong relationships across the library branches and within the  community.

The successful candidate will work 140 hours rostered over each 4 week period with a minimum of 9 days off per 4 week roster cycle, and may be required to work on some weekends and evenings.

Key activities of this role include:

  • Developing and delivering a range of programs, services and resources to engage,inspire, educate and entertain children, from infants to young adults, and their carers; 
  • Planning, preparing and presenting programs and events for the children and youth on the Central Coast throughout the year, including school holidays;
  • Liaising with, advising and working with Branch Supervisors and staff to provide materials and training for children and youth services programs;
  • Increasing the awareness of literacy programs and services offered by the library service for Children and Youth, including digital literacy.

This role provides a salary range of between $62.9k to $75.5k per annum + superannuation.
